As a native Floridian, Rebecca Portalatin finds that her family tends to use DVC more for extended weekends than the traditional week-long vacation. We discuss buying into DVC as a Floridian and buying a direct contract at the Polynesian.
Season 4 of the My DVC Points Podcast was made possible through financial support from the DVC Dream Team:
- DVC Resale Market – Industry Leader in DVC Resales
- DVC Rental Store – DVC Point Rental and Swap Partner
- Incredible Vacation Homes – Luxury Vacation Homes for Family Gatherings
- Be Our Guest Vacations – Travel Agent for DVC Point Swap Programs
- Monera Financial – Exclusively Financing DVC Contracts
- Patreon supporters in the My DVC Points VIP Producer Club.
Rebecca’s home resort is Polynesian Resort, and she has been a member for five years.
Her husband’s uncle was a DVC member, and Rebecca credits her uncle for talking them into buying DVC. Rebecca admittedly did not know much about DVC. She purchased her contract during a $200 Visa gift card promotion and a few thousand dollar discount, and Polynesian was selling at the time. She did not ask about any other resorts and learned about resale and other options after she purchased.
Rebecca and her family are local Floridian and are self-professed Disney fanatics who visit the parks on weekends and a day here and there. Rebecca will make her own Disney shirts to rock in the parks. She brings all her food for meals except for dinner to make their stays more economical so they can visit more often.
To stretch points, Rebecca books studio and one-bedroom rooms. She has even been able to snag a value Animal Kingdom room. Rebecca has found it challenging to get a reservation for the Wilderness Lodge properties, Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek. Her biggest bucket list is a visit to Aulani, and she hopes to go for a milestone birthday. At that time, she may add-on points from the resale market at Animal Kingdom to get a more upgraded room.
Rebecca is still deciding between Jambo House and Kidani Village to stay in a grand villa. Jambo is all one level and has the billiards tables. Kidani has a vast glass entry and a beautiful balcony with two levels. She goes back and forth between the two, and she will continue to dream about it until it comes.
