Jen Blanchette’s Disney journey began with Disney’s Magic Music Days and a handful of childhood trips. In 2014, she went back to the magic and found her joy. Ever since her family has gone back to Walt Disney World every 18 months like clockwork.
Like most of us in the Disney Vacation Club community, her first stays on-property were at value and moderate resorts like Disney’s Pop Century and Disney’s Port Orleans. Her family got a taste of the deluxe resort experience when they decided to book at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge was in the middle of its transformation for the addition of the Disney Vacation Club Copper Creek Villas and Cabins, and DVC members were abuzz.
After balancing the math on the benefit of owning a Disney Vacation Club contract versus paying cash every 18 months, Jen decided to buy her DVC contract on the resale market in 2019. She calls Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa home, and she has zero regrets about going for a resale DVC membership only. Owning Disney Vacation Club from the resale market was a great move for Jen because she will never go enough days to warrant an annual pass, nor will she be able to plan her trips around events like DVC’s Moonlight Magic. Jen worked with our sponsor, DVC Resale Market, to purchase her two DVC contracts. Shoutouts to Marissa and Scotty for helping Jen’s purchase process go smoothly.
So far, Jen has only stayed on points at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. With two teenagers at home, Jen wanted her kids to be blown away by their first experience to keep them excited about DVC. Staying at Disney’s Beach Club Resort for the price of Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa is always a slam dunk deal. Next, they plan to stay at Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalows this coming holiday season.
Jen hopes they’ll stay at every single DVC resort over the life of their contracts. Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa top their list, but so do the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Either way, Jen believes they’ll always need at least a one-bedroom, if not a two-bedroom. Her teens can have their wing of the DVC villa, and Jen can relax. This hasn't helped her addonitis because more points equal more space. She ended up adding a second, small resale contract also at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa in her existing use year. This keeps everything simple, and she will always be able to combine her points at 11 months. Even though this was the best move for Jen, she still yearns for points at the Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.
Jen closes our episode by answering our classic rapid-fire questions on her favorite Disney spots, treats, and gear. Most importantly, Jen shares her best tips on making her points work for her. No matter the ages of her children or how their vacation interests change, their DVC points have allowed their family to keep Disney Magic in their lives. From Anna and Elsa meet and greets to riding the Hollywood Tower of Terror, Jen’s family will keep using their DVC points to make memories.>
