Lynda Colby first learned of DVC in 1999 on an anniversary trip to Walt Disney World. They stayed at Wilderness Lodge when the Boulder Ridge Villas were first constructed. After she and her husband researched and investigated, he bought in at BoardWalk Villas. Lynda shares her experiences as a DVC mom and grandmother with over 20 years of experience. Episode 236.

Since 1999, the Colby family has loved their home resort of BoardWalk Villas. They initially bought 250 points at $72 a point. Addontitis has set in a few times; however, Lynda has only added on once. It was another 50 points at BoardWalk. Through excellent planning, they book multiple rooms and sometimes multiple vacations on points. (Having 11-month access to standard view rooms at BoardWalk helps, but not everybody in the family loves those rooms).
If you've ever tried to plan a family gathering, you know how hard it is for people to commit. Lynda has a couple of strategies. #1 everybody in the family loves BoardWalk Villas. If you want to stay at BoardWalk, we must commit to the 11-month window. Lynda and her husband also offer to pick up other vacation expenses beyond the rooms. It may be airfare, a few days' base tickets, or other similar expenses. Once the family is there, they plan a couple of meals together, but by in large, the family is free to come and go as they please. But Lynda will tell you, she's not above bribery to get her family together at Disney.
After 20 years, the Colby family is 100% convinced that BoardWalk is the perfect resort for them. If Lynda had it to do over again, she might have purchased a few more points. Another fun insight was Lynda has seen her kids and grandkids bring non-Disney partners to Walt Disney World. She says it only takes one trip before the new family becomes Disney fans.
